The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence Welcomes
BMC HealthNet Plan to Leadership Council
Three new groups sign on to support statewide effort for
increased patient focus on health care quality
BOSTON – MARCH 26, 2008 – The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence is pleased to announce the addition of BMC HealthNet Plan to its Leadership Council. Founded in 1997 by Boston Medical Center, BMC HealthNet Plan is a managed care organization providing coverage to over 240,000 MassHealth (Medicaid) and Commonwealth Care members across the Commonwealth.
In addition to BMC HealthNet Plan, two other organizations have joined the Partnership in its ongoing effort to help Massachusetts consumers improve the quality of health care for themselves and their families. The Massachusetts Association of Registered Nurses (MARN) and 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East will enhance the work of the Leadership Council through their members’ diverse networks and expertise.
The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence is dedicated to helping consumers become more informed and engaged in their own health care. The Partnership also strives to inform the public about variations in health care quality and encourages consumers to become engaged in pressing for changes to improve the overall quality of the health care system. The Partnership's 48-member Leadership Council includes physician leaders, nurses, hospitals, public health and patient advocates, providers, insurers, business leaders, as well as representatives from civic and community organizations. A full list of Leadership Council members is available on the website at www.partnershipforhealthcare.org.
"The support of these three organizations will further help the Partnership achieve its goal of increased patient engagement," said Marilyn Schlein Kramer, Executive Director of The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence. "Their involvement with the Leadership Council shows the interest in this effort reaches across the entire health care spectrum," said Kramer.
"BMC HealthNet Plan values the mission and work of the Partnership toward patient participation in health care," said Jean Haynes, Executive Director of BMC HealthNet Plan. "We look forward to working with the other Leadership Council members to promote a movement of more engaged patients throughout Massachusetts."
