Partnership for Healthcare Excellence Announces Release of Consumer and Provider Videos
Individuals and Health Care Professionals Provide Advice on How to Be "Great Patients"
April 07, 2009 – Boston, MA – The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence today announced the launch of a new resource designed to provide real life advice and examples to help consumers improve the quality of their health care.
Beginning this week, the Partnership will release nine videos featuring Massachusetts consumers, physicians and a pharmacist talking about the benefits of being an engaged patient and ways to become more involved one's health care. Video topics include: making the most of your time with your doctor, the importance of keeping a medication list, preventing infection, preparing for surgery, and taking an active role in your health care.
The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence is dedicated to helping consumers become more informed and engaged in their own health care. The Partnership also strives to inform the public about variations in health care quality and encourages consumers to become engaged in pressing for changes to improve the overall quality of the health care system.
"People often ask 'what does quality care look like,'" said Marilyn Schlein Kramer, executive director of the Partnership. "These videos feature real life examples from patients and doctors describing what quality looks like and giving practical advice on how to get it," said Kramer.
Following today's launch, the Partnership plans to release an additional video each week over the next eight weeks. Eight of the videos will be available in English, and one, on preparing for a doctor's visit, will also be available in Spanish. All videos will be available for free public viewing and download on the website at www.partnershipforhealthcare.org and on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/HealthcareExcellence.
"This is an important piece of our mission to engage a broad audience on health care issues that impact everyone," said Kramer. "We are pleased to provide this unique resource and hope it inspires other consumers to share their stories about being engaged patients."
