The Partnership For Healthcare Excellence Announces the Appointment of New Executive Director

Interim Executive Director Brings Expertise in Patient Advocacy

February 16, 2010 – Boston, MA – The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence (the Partnership) proudly announces the appointment of Martha Hayward to the position of Interim Executive Director. With a background in patient advocacy, communications and fundraising, Ms. Hayward brings a blend of expertise well suited to fulfilling the mission of the Partnership.

“The need for consumer engagement in health care has never been greater,” said James Conway, Chairman of the Board. “We are fortunate to have Martha’s vast knowledge of patient advocacy and experience in communications behind this effort.”

A cancer survivor herself, Ms. Hayward is a member of the Dana Farber Patient and Family Advisory Council and a founding board member of Women’s Health Exchange.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Partnership,” said Ms. Hayward. “I sincerely believe in the Partnership’s mission of giving consumers a stronger voice when it comes to their health care, and look forward to promoting this mission in my new role.”

The Partnership is preparing to announce the results of important research in consumer engagement based on a two-year study led by former Executive Director, Marilyn Kramer. The data offers insight into the effectiveness of messaging to consumers. With the results of this research, the Partnership’s focus moving forward will be to build efficiencies through collaborations with health care providers, government and consumer groups.

“The members of the board are delighted to welcome Martha to the Partnership,” said Deborah Enos, President and CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan and PHE board member. “Our continued focus on consumer education and communication is essential to the fulfillment of our mission. This is an exciting time to be building on the accomplishments of the past three years.”
