James Conway, Senior Vice President, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (Chair)

James Conway, M.S., is a Senior Vice President at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

From 1995 to 2005, Mr. Conway served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Prior to joining Dana-Farber, he had a 27-year career at Boston's Children's Hospital in radiology administration, finance, and as assistant hospital director for patient care services. His areas of expertise and interest include executive leadership, patient safety, change management, and patient/family-centered care.

Mr. Conway currently serves as a member of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council.  He is also a member of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Identifying and Preventing Medication Errors and a distinguished advisor to the National Patient Safety Foundation.  He serves on the board of Medically-Induced Trauma Support Services; The Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors, the Health Research and Education Trust; and on the Board of Advisors of the American Cancer Society, New England Region.

In 2001, Mr. Conway was awarded the first Individual Leadership Award in Patient Safety by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). 

He earned his Masters of Science degree from Lesley College.

Zoila Torres Feldman, Executive Director, Kit Clark Senior Services Center
(Treasurer)

Zoila Torres Feldman is the Executive Director of the Kit Clark Senior Services Center. She previously served as the President and CEO of the Great Brook Valley Health Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, from 1983 to 2007.  From 1980-1983, she served as its Director of Professional Services.  Prior to coming to Great Brook Valley, Feldman served as a staff nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital and at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Ms. Feldman has won numerous honors and distinctions for her professional and community work including the Outstanding Massachusetts Health Center Director Award (1987); the Kathleen Crampton Award from the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (1990); a  Recognition Award for Leadership from the City of Worcester and the State of Massachusetts (1980); a Recognition Award from the Massachusetts Public Health Association (1991); a Recognition Award from the City of Worcester for her work with Refugees and Immigrants (1998); and the Community Leader Award from Health Care For All (2006).

Ms. Feldman currently serves as a member of the faculty at UMass Medical School and at UMass Graduate School of Nursing. She also serves on the Board of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and the Board of The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence.

Ms. Feldman has a nursing degree from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Youngstown, Ohio; a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University; and a Masters of Science in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Paul Guzzi, President, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce

Paul Guzzi is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, one of the region’s leading business associations.

Mr. Guzzi has extensive experience in both business and government. He began his public service career as a state representative from Newton in 1970 and was elected Massachusetts Secretary of State in 1974.  Mr. Guzzi also served as a chief of staff for Governor Edward King and chief administrator of the Board of Regents of Public Higher Education.

His business experience includes serving as a vice president at Data General Corporation, and as a senior vice president at Wang Laboratories.   He also served as Vice President of State and Community Affairs for Boston College and was a consultant for Heidrick & Struggles, an international recruitment and consulting firm.

In addition to his leadership at the Chamber, Mr. Guzzi is co-host of This Week in Business, a weekly television program on NECN. 

Among his civic activities, Mr. Guzzi serves as a trustee of the Citi Performing Arts Center and a director of the Boston Foundation.  He is a member of the advisory boards of the Boston Club and the Kennedy School Taubman Center for State and Local Government.

He graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government.

Howard Koh, MD, MPH

Harvard School of Public Health

Dr. Howard Koh is Associate Dean for Public Health Practice, the Harvey V. Fineberg Professor of the Practice of Public Health, and the Director of the Division of Public Health Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health.  He is also Director of the Harvard School of Public Health Center for Public Health Preparedness.

From 1997 through 2003, Dr. Koh served as Commissioner of Public Health for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, appointed by Governor William Weld.  As Commissioner, Dr. Koh oversaw a wide range of public health services and a staff of over 3,000 public health professionals.  Dr. Koh also previously served as Professor of Dermatology, Medicine, and Public Health as well as Director of Cancer Prevention and Control at Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health.  He has earned board certification in four medical fields including internal medicine, hematology, medical oncology, and dermatology.  He has published over 200 scientific articles in the medical and public health literature.

Dr. Koh is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies and is on the IOM Roundtable on Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities.  He has received the Drs. Jack E. White/LaSalle D. Leffall, Jr., Cancer Prevention Award from the American Association for Cancer Research and the Intercultural Cancer Council, as well as the national Distinguished Service Award from the American Cancer Society.  In 2000, President Bill Clinton appointed Dr. Koh to a term on the National Cancer Advisory Board.

Dr. Koh received his BA and MD from Yale University and a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University.

Peter Meade, former Executive Vice President, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts

Peter Meade is a former Executive Vice President at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA), where his responsibilities included media relations, government relations and legislative affairs, regulatory affairs, community relations, and internal communications. In addition, he served as the company’s primary liaison to state and federal lawmakers.

Mr. Meade’s leadership was instrumental in the creation of Jump Up & Go!, the company’s award-winning health and wellness program aimed at middle school children. His responsibilities also included oversight of BlueCrew, a signature volunteer program of BCBSMA.

Previously Mr. Meade served as president and CEO of the New England Council, representing regional business concerns in Washington, D.C. From 1983 and 1992, he provided political analysis and commentary as a talk show host on WBZ Newsradio 1030 in Boston. His professional experience also includes Warner Amex Cable Communications, where he was vice president. He was the founding director of the Boston Community School program and served as public safety coordinator for the City of Boston during federally mandated school desegregation.

Mr. Meade shares his time and expertise with a number of community and service organizations.  He is the Chair of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy; Chair of his alma mater, Emerson College; and co-chairs the MassINC Board of Directors. He serves on the Board of Directors for the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, the Anti-Defamation League of New England and AAA of Southern New England.

Mr. Meade received his Bachelor of Arts from Emerson College.
